In this post, I’m going to explain how you can pass the Qatar Airways Cabin Crew recruitment process. As discussed in my post ‘What to expect at your Cabin Crew assessment day with Qatar Airways‘, there are many stages and interviews you need to pass during the open day. However, first you need to make an application. I will provide helpful tips on how you can pass the Qatar Airways Cabin Crew recruitment process.
There are several things you can do to start off the Qatar Airways Cabin Crew recruitment process. You can apply for a role on their website. However, this is not a requirement and you can just register for an open day on their careers site, or simply turn up on the day! There are no advantages for either method as everyone is treated the same on the day.
Before attending an open day, it’s imperative that you meet all of the requirements. The only criteria to start the open day is that you meet their requirements. If you turn up on the day and don’t meet the requirements, you will be turned away instantly.
The requirements to become Qatar Airways Cabin Crew are:
- Minimum age of 21
- Minimum high school education
- Have excellent health and fitness levels
- Fluency in both written and spoken English plus a second language is preferable (especially Arabic)
- Must be able to reach 212 cm, on tip toes
- Willingness to relocate and live in Doha, Qatar
The open day
As a previous application isn’t essential, it is crucial that you are well prepared for the open day and have everything you need. It is essential that you bring everything you need, as if you are missing something you could be turned away.
You will need to bring the following with you:
- A copy of your CV
- Photocopy of your passport and highest education certificate
- One passport sized photo and one full-length photo
As these documents are one of the first impressions the airline will get of you, it is essential that you impress! Your CV needs to be of high quality and match the needs of Qatar Airways. Take a look at the post ‘How to write the perfect CV‘ for advice on how you can make the best version of your CV! We also offer a personalised CV & cover letter service, where we will produce a high-quality CV or cover letter for you. If you are interested in this option, email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss further.
It is also important that your photos are professional. You should be wearing formal, business attire and standing in front of a light blue backdrop. You should be standing straight with your hands by your side and smiling. If you feel you won’t be able to produce good quality pictures yourself, it may be worth considering investing in a photographer! They will be able to tailor the pictures to your needs and you will come away with high quality, professional pictures to take to the open day with you.
First impressions are really important! Subconsciously, recruiters will be deciding whether they like you or not from the moment they set eyes on you. Therefore, it is very important that you are dressed professionally, in business attire. You should be in smart, business clothing and shoes and have presentable hair and makeup. You should dress up to Qatar Airways Cabin Crew standards.
It is also very important that you appear friendly, confident and outgoing on the day. This includes when you hand in your documents and when you are waiting around. The candidate who starts conversations with other candidates may just catch the eye of a recruiter.
Open Day Questions
Once you have handed in your documents, the recruiters will call you up to check your documents and ask you a few questions such as: ‘Why do you want to become Cabin Crew?’ or ‘Why do you want to work for this airline?’ To successfully answer these questions, you should make sure you have researched the airline thoroughly prior to the open day. It is important that you include things specifically about the role of Cabin Crew and Qatar that interests you. Candidates with an in depth knowledge of the role and airline stand out compared to those that don’t!
The Assessment Day
The main part of the Qatar Airways Cabin Crew recruitment process is the assessment day that usually takes place the day after the open day. You should dress to the same standards as you did for the open day.
During the assessment day you will need to complete a 45 minute English test. This involves text-dependent questions, multiple choice and fill in the blanks with the appropriate word. The best way to ensure you pass this is to practice your English before hand if English isn’t your native language! Even if English is your native language, it never harms to go over your spelling and grammar. You will also need to complete 5 maths questions and write an essay on a given subject. Again, for both of these to maximise your chances you should go over simple maths and essay writing before the day!
After these tests you will be asked to pick a word from a bowl and then speak about it for as long as possible. For this section, the recruiters will be looking at how you talk, not particularly at what you are saying as the words will be random. You should make sure you speak clearly and confidently, and in an interesting and fun way!
The next stage if the assessment day is group activities. Here recruiters will split you into groups and give you a task. While you carry out the activities the recruiters will be looking at how you interact with your group. It’s important that you’re a good team player and show initiative while also allowing other members of the team to express their ideas.
The last part of the assessment day is the final interview. This will only last 5-10 minutes and you will be asked a number of questions based on your CV, experience and readiness to relocate. It is important that you prepare your answers in advance so that you respond confidently and clearly. It is also important that you are ready to relocate as soon as possible, as this is an essential requirement. For example questions and answers, have a look at our free interview question guide.
