As discussed in the previous post, ‘what is a pre-flight briefing?’ a pre-flight briefing is a vital part of your day as a member of Cabin Crew. They ensure that your knowledge is up to scratch and that you are fit to work the flight – this ensures the safety of both crew and passengers on the aircraft. It is also a CAA regulation.
Answering the pre-flight briefing questions
During the pre-flight briefing, you will be asked a series of questions that are designed to check that your knowledge is up to date. The manager will ask you a range of questions so that they can assess whether they think you’re prepared and have the required knowledge to work the flight.
Questions may focus on SEP, AVMED, aircraft type or red notices. If you want to know more about the types of questions you may be asked during a pre-flight briefing and see some examples, take a look at my Becoming Cabin Crew E-book!
If you answer questions incorrectly this can be problematic. While you may be let off for answering incorrectly to a question or two, if the manager asking you the questions doesn’t think that your answers demonstrate sufficient knowledge then you will be grounded.
Being grounded on the basis of failing your pre-flight briefing questions can get you in a lot of trouble. This will often involve you having to undertake a refresher course to boost your knowledge. It could also include disciplinary action. However, you need to bear in mind that you will not be offered a refresher course on multiple occasions! If you continually fail to answer the questions sufficiently you will be dismissed by the airline.
What you can do to ensure you pass your pre-flight briefing
It is best that you fully prepare yourself for your pre-flight briefings. You should revisit your manuals and make sure you keep your knowledge up to date after your initial training. This is one of the things that Cabin Crew find tough, but it is very important that you do so- it’s only natural that we forget things sometimes!
