So, you are thinking about becoming South African Airways Cabin Crew and you want to know what the uniform is like…look no further and discover the stunning uniform.
South African Airways’ female cabin crew have an option of wearing: trousers, a skirt or a dress. Which means staff have flexibility to wear something they feel comfortable and stylish in; compared to other airlines who require crew to wear skirts.
The Uniform: Basics
The uniform trousers, skirt, dress, blazer/jacket and service gillet are royal blue and the pockets on the jacket and dress have embroidered designs in a blue thread that compliments the design and texture of the uniform.
The jacket has three buttons which can be done-up and reveals a section of either the shirt or the dress. The shirt is white with patterns in the fabric which looks stunning with the uniform jacket and has commonly ¾ length sleeves.
Or if you decide to wear the dress, you can expect a beautiful blue uniform item that worn at a length to the knee, accompanied with black tights. The dress has short sleeves and the embroidered designs on the pockets and panels to structure the dress. In my opinion, the uniform dress is a good choice as it is simple and is a good accompanying piece for the jacket.

The skirt and trousers are the same blue colour. The skirt is worn on the knee and, like the skirt, is worn with black tights. However, the trousers can also be worn by crew – which are the same blue colour as the rest of the uniform – are not commonly worn as the skirt and dress.
In addition to the suit, crew wear a uniform scarf which consists of 6 colours – the same as the Republic of South Africa flag: red, yellow, green, blue, white and black. The scarf finishes the look and identifies the brand as being a representative for the country and makes people proud to ‘fly the flag’.
Once crew graduate training, they receive their wings which has the SAA tailfin design and wing attached. They also get a name badge with the company logo and name on.
Shoes for female crew when walking through the terminal are heels and must be black.
Female crew with long hair must have it tied back so they can handle food and keep hygiene standards up. Some crew will wear their hair in a bun style or in a plaited twist or French roll.
